A very belated Deciem post.

I've been meaning to post about this for a long time, but I put it off for too long, and so better late than never.

Rest in peace, Brandon.

I'm sorry it ended the way it did.
I'm sorry that you were failed.
I can't ever forgive some of your sentiments,
but I'm just sorry for everything.

Deciem is a brand I will always support, so thank you for bringing us game-changing products.
xx

THE DOWNFALL OF DECIEM || What about the products?! || #RivetReview

As things get more bizarre, I'm talking conspiracy theories and incomprehensible banter bizarre, with Deciem and its problematic founder, Brandon Truaxe, it's hard to tell what is going to happen with the brand. Brandon was ousted as CEO as of the 12th October 2018, after he stated that Deciem was going to cease operations for two months. With the Instagram account deactivated (reactivated as of 15th October) we don't know what is happening inside the brand, and whether this is just all an elaborate PR stunt or just somebody who has lost themselves to their mind.

Leading up to this, I have been trying to use up the stash I have left, and I said I would give my thoughts on the products, feelings aside for a person who publishes confidential emails, accuses his board of criminal activity, and calls customers 'idiots'. I'm not sure where the brand is going now, only time will tell, but I want to be confident that things turn around for the better.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA Surface Hydration Formula || #RivetReview

Deciem have many brands under their umbrella known as 'THE ABNORMAL BEAUTY COMPANY', and The Ordinary was the brand to bring high end clinical formulations into the hands of consumers at budget friendly prices. I mean, BUDGET FRIENDLY.

Our skin needs moisture to maintain optimum health and function. The outer layer cells may be dead, but there's a crucial component to the mix; Natural Moisturizing Factors.

Know Your Cleansers || A GUIDE TO CLEANSERS || Rivet Licker

Cleansers. Just soap, right? WRONG. Cleansers are the first step in your skincare routine, the step that gets the day off and leaves your skin prepped to receive treatment, but they're not a one size fits all approach. Your cleanser should be appropriately matched to your skin type and condition, because you don't want to be using something that dries your skin out when it's already dry, or worsens your acne.

This post is an adaptive revisit from a story I wrote a couple of years ago for another blog, but the information is absolutely more than relevant for my readers with some products for all budgets!

Molecule Madness || AN ABC-E GUIDE TO VITAMINS IN SKINCARE || Rivet Licker

In the middle of studying a combination of physical and organic chemistry, I found a break where I felt I could write a story on nothing other than vitamins, some of the organic molecules in our skincare. We need them to survive and we can't make a lot of them, so we get them from our food.

Vitamins in skincare do specific jobs, and some do similar things, but work for different skin types and conditions. Most act as antioxidants, where they bond to free radicals and prevent damage to our DNA. Breaking it down below, here we have a little guide to picking what kind of vitamin may work for your skin.

DISAPPOINTING PRODUCTS || Makeup, Skincare, Haircare || #RivetReview

I get to try out a lot of products as a blogger, and while I don't like to be negative (without constructive feedback), I do like to be honest.

Here we have some products that just did not cut it; whether it be the formula, the colour, the fragrance, or just the general consensus of being poor performing. NO BRANDS ARE SAFE! LET THE HONESTY HOUR BEGIN!

#RivetEmpties Week - SKINCARE - January to April Empties!

Welcome back to #RivetEmpties week!

Day 1

Over a period of a few months, anything between 3 and 6, I collect all the products I use up in that period (or products that go rancid) and do a theme week to show what I have managed to use up! This week will only have four posts, as I'm not really purging anything, so we'll start off with our week's favourite, SKINCARE!

Peptides & Skincare with Rivet - TRENDING

Peptides are not a new concept in skincare; they have been around for a few decades, but they are starting to trend as anti-aging miracle workers. A peptide is merely a building block made from short chains of amino acids (anything containing less than 50 amino acid bonds is considered a peptide). Proteins make up anatomical tissue structures, including the integumentary system, where our skin protects us from the outside world.

Illustration including a Tetrapeptide chain (four amino acids).

In this story, we will go into detail about three popular types of peptides used in skincare and anti-aging formulation, which include the old and trusted Matrixyl (plus its newer generation adaptations), Copper Peptides, and the topical Botox alternative, or "Faux-tox", Argireline.

Travel Essentials: Rivet's packed her bags and gone to Melbourne!

If you are reading this between 28th September - 4th October 2016, I am currently away in Melbourne. I don't get to travel often, so when it is time to pack items to take for a stay away from the precious collection of dozens of beauty products, I'm generally useless. Here are the products I have managed to bring with me on this 6 day “I need to get out of Sydney for a few days, but not too many, because I'll miss my dog too much” getaway.

Reason 1 for visiting Melbourne.

Reason 2 for visiting Melbourne.
Melbourne is home to some of my family and many friends, including Simon Proietto of The Skincare Obsessive, my BFF in blogging and life.
