Know Your Cleansers || A GUIDE TO CLEANSERS || Rivet Licker

Cleansers. Just soap, right? WRONG. Cleansers are the first step in your skincare routine, the step that gets the day off and leaves your skin prepped to receive treatment, but they're not a one size fits all approach. Your cleanser should be appropriately matched to your skin type and condition, because you don't want to be using something that dries your skin out when it's already dry, or worsens your acne.

This post is an adaptive revisit from a story I wrote a couple of years ago for another blog, but the information is absolutely more than relevant for my readers with some products for all budgets!

Molecule Madness || AN ABC-E GUIDE TO VITAMINS IN SKINCARE || Rivet Licker

In the middle of studying a combination of physical and organic chemistry, I found a break where I felt I could write a story on nothing other than vitamins, some of the organic molecules in our skincare. We need them to survive and we can't make a lot of them, so we get them from our food.

Vitamins in skincare do specific jobs, and some do similar things, but work for different skin types and conditions. Most act as antioxidants, where they bond to free radicals and prevent damage to our DNA. Breaking it down below, here we have a little guide to picking what kind of vitamin may work for your skin.

#RivetEmpties Week - HAIR & BODY - January to April Empties!

Welcome to #RivetEmpties Week!

Day 3

I'm not huge on body products, I mean, I hardly take care of the skin on my body as well as I do my face. My hair is also neglected a lot, so I live off dry shampoo. Now that I have chopped most of it off, I won't be using much product either, so this will probably be the last separate category for Hair & Body.

#RivetEmpties Week - SKINCARE - January to April Empties!

Welcome back to #RivetEmpties week!

Day 1

Over a period of a few months, anything between 3 and 6, I collect all the products I use up in that period (or products that go rancid) and do a theme week to show what I have managed to use up! This week will only have four posts, as I'm not really purging anything, so we'll start off with our week's favourite, SKINCARE!

How to to get that post-facial glow at home! Facial Massage Technique

Have you ever had a really good facial where your skin looks and feels amazing, and you feel like you have been floating on a cloud? A facial involves more than just a therapist applying skincare, there is also the aspect of relaxation via human touch and a serene environment. Okay, so our homes may not be a sanctuary, but I can definitely give you a few pointers to get that glow, with your very own hands and products already in your arsenal!

Facials are more than they appear.

Why does your skin glow after a facial? One of two things - firstly, your skin is stimulated with products and touch. Secondly, you probably weren't aware about how dehydrated your skin may have been prior to treatment. Dehydration is a major contributor to dull looking skin, even when you drink the recommended amount of water per day. Hydration is a very hot topic on my blog because I experience TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss) very easily due to having unsubstantial oil flow (dry skin).

#RivetEmpties Week - MASKS & TREATMENTS - August to December Empties!

#RivetEmpties Week

Day 2

This particular post felt that it was carrying its own weight to justify a separate post. Masks and treatments target specific conditions, whether they are pesky pimples, dullness & dehydration, and even make a wide array of claims, such as "oxygenating", "peeling" and "detoxfying". Ahh, got to love marketing.

#RivetEmpties Week - SKINCARE - August to December Empties!

Welcome to #RivetEmpties Week!

Day 1

If you have been following me on social media for the past year, you'll know that my last empties week was held in July of 2016, and was posted on Instagram under the hashtag #RivetEmpties (go have a look, the posts are still there!) And in previous times, I used to do empties as YouTube videos, when I still had the ability to sit in front of a camera and talk. These theme weeks come every four to six months, depending on when the box gets full, and how determined I am to use up products. This week showcases August through December. As it's a theme week that ties in with the turn of the calendar, there will be posts every day with a special New Year PURGE on Friday.

Being a beauty writer, I go through heaps of product to come up with content, and skincare is probably the big one I talk about, so where better to start than with all the stuff I stick on my face? It's actually REALLY hard using up product when I have to test so many to give my opinions, but somehow, I managed to get these babies fully used (or at least I found them in the cupboard, way past their prime).

Swisse Skincare 2016 Releases - #RivetReview

Swisse, yes, the vitamin and wellness company, also make skincare, and have been for several years now. Just in case you have missed the memo, this brand has been one that has found a praise in my skincare cupboard. The botanical formulas and eco-friendly products make Swisse Skincare great for your skin and for your conscience.

Press Box

In June 2016, a new range of product hit pharmacy and supermarket shelves; including two BB Creams*, a sunblock, a clearing moisturiser, a body scrub and a body oil. These products joined the already flourishing range of some of my favourite makeup remover, oil cleanser, and toner mist.

Travel Essentials: Rivet's packed her bags and gone to Melbourne!

If you are reading this between 28th September - 4th October 2016, I am currently away in Melbourne. I don't get to travel often, so when it is time to pack items to take for a stay away from the precious collection of dozens of beauty products, I'm generally useless. Here are the products I have managed to bring with me on this 6 day “I need to get out of Sydney for a few days, but not too many, because I'll miss my dog too much” getaway.

Reason 1 for visiting Melbourne.

Reason 2 for visiting Melbourne.
Melbourne is home to some of my family and many friends, including Simon Proietto of The Skincare Obsessive, my BFF in blogging and life.

#RivetReview Archive - Part Three

A slight delay (life got in the way) made this a little difficult to get up within a reasonable time frame, but fret not, part three is here! Still rather poor writing on my part, but progress is a journey.

Woohoo!
