I FORMULATED MY OWN PINK CLAY MASK! || 'Lala's D.I.Why?' Recipe! || Rivet Licker

Pink Clay Masks are still holding down the fort in mask trends. I've tried a few different masks, but I've been using pink clay as a dual action cleanser and colourant in my whipped soaps.

 2: top of jar packaging

I've been working on soap making for my Star Trek fan club fundraising, and playing around with other cosmetics to give as gifts to family and friends (as LaLa's D.I.Why?, which started as my brand of poo spray I made as gag gifts for my friends' birthdays), but I kind of surprised myself when I managed to formulate my own clay mask with some ingredients I found at a local supermarket. I'm feeling generous, so I'm going to share the story AND recipe with my audience!

The #GoNaked Lush Christmas || 2017 Edit || Rivet Licker

Every year, Lush puts on a display of conceptually inspired products for their Christmas range. This year is no different.

The #GoNaked theme seeks to offer the consumer a range of products that do not need packaging - so you get all the product you’re paying for, and not a bunch of paper and plastic, waiting to be thrown out.

CO-WASHING || How To Wash Your Hair With Conditioner || Rivet Licker

Washing hair has pretty much remained consistent over the years – shampoo first (sometimes twice), conditioner second. This meant you had to cleanse (i.e. strip your hair within its life), then restore your keratin strands with a conditioner. For coloured hair, this means fading colour quickly!

The bad doodles are bad!

Fortunately, new formulations and techniques have been added to the market to clean the hair and scalp without ruining your colour! Welcome the Conditioner Washing Revolution, and here's how to do it!

#RivetEmpties Week - LUSH EMPTIES & PURGE - January To April Empties!

Welcome to #RivetEmpties Week!

Day 4

Today is an ultra special day, because I am going through a bunch of Lush products. I found a heap at the back of my bathroom cupboard, and decided that there needs to be a special "purge". Well, I can at least trade in a few for face masks!!!

Items that are being purged were ones I found in the cupboard.
Some of the the purge items were empty, or I used them to store other items.
And of course, the empties used up between January and April will be clearly stated!
LET'S GO!

Lush Mother's Day Collection - 2017 Limited Edition and NEW products!

Mother's Day is coming up for us Aussies on the 14th May 2017, and Lush really deliver on the theme! If you know me from way back, I used to write solely about Lush products, so this is walking back to those times.

Happy Mother's Day, from Lush!

I was fortunate enough to attend the launch breakfast of this collection, so I present to you (no pun), some of Lush's Mother's Day goodies! All for me, too, because I have zero maternal instinct and Mum's really not into scented things!

How to to get that post-facial glow at home! Facial Massage Technique

Have you ever had a really good facial where your skin looks and feels amazing, and you feel like you have been floating on a cloud? A facial involves more than just a therapist applying skincare, there is also the aspect of relaxation via human touch and a serene environment. Okay, so our homes may not be a sanctuary, but I can definitely give you a few pointers to get that glow, with your very own hands and products already in your arsenal!

Facials are more than they appear.

Why does your skin glow after a facial? One of two things - firstly, your skin is stimulated with products and touch. Secondly, you probably weren't aware about how dehydrated your skin may have been prior to treatment. Dehydration is a major contributor to dull looking skin, even when you drink the recommended amount of water per day. Hydration is a very hot topic on my blog because I experience TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss) very easily due to having unsubstantial oil flow (dry skin).

#RivetEmpties Week - PURGE DAY - 2017

#RivetEmpties Week

Day 5

Today, in an incredible finale to #RivetEmpties Week, we purge. All the old products that didn't get completely used because they turned rancid, or I didn't like the product and knew I would never use it again. This is the kind of stuff that won't even warrant finding a new home because it's that old, and questionable. I wouldn't give it to my worst enemy, it's just disgusting and needs to be thrown out. Chances are, I won't be repurchasing anything listed here.

WARNING: LONG POST AHEAD!

All items featured in this and previous #RivetEmpties posts will be disposed of thoughtfully.

#RivetEmpties Week - HAIR & BODY - August to December Empties!

#RivetEmpties Week

Day 3

I wouldn't be Rivet Licker without my signature blue hair - 4.5 years and counting. All that maintenance has me going through loads of products, or does it? I also question why it takes me a year or two to get through a single bottle of shower gel.

Summer Goth - Beauty & Fashion Essentials

Whoever said we needed to brood indoors when the temperature rises along with the UV index? I'm your stock standard alternative, black clad and existential goth girl (with a sun allergy - extra goth points for the Vampire hiss), but the outdoor world doesn't scare me; or at least areas in the shade don't! As some of you may already know, and a heads up for those that don't, I have an intolerance to sunlight (and other forms of UV emitting light sources) caused by having Lupus. I also lost pigmentation and the ability to tan (a far cry from the little olive brown kid I was). Surely enough, the goth lifestyle was my destiny - I used to express myself more when I was active in the scene, but I tend to keep things very casual these days.

Bright hair, black clothes, skin that looks darker than it really is.

I have curated a list of essential items to survive summer as a goth!

Travel Essentials: Rivet's packed her bags and gone to Melbourne!

If you are reading this between 28th September - 4th October 2016, I am currently away in Melbourne. I don't get to travel often, so when it is time to pack items to take for a stay away from the precious collection of dozens of beauty products, I'm generally useless. Here are the products I have managed to bring with me on this 6 day “I need to get out of Sydney for a few days, but not too many, because I'll miss my dog too much” getaway.

Reason 1 for visiting Melbourne.

Reason 2 for visiting Melbourne.
Melbourne is home to some of my family and many friends, including Simon Proietto of The Skincare Obsessive, my BFF in blogging and life.

#RivetReview Archive - Part One

Once upon a time, I started reviewing products on Instagram. I didn't actually review them a formal sense, I just stated what I thought, and those thoughts were very vague (but honest). I give you the archive - Part 1 - my early #RivetReview posts.

#RivetReview had to start somewhere!

Lush - Avocado Co-Wash - #RivetReview

Avocado Co-Wash from Lush is a new product, being the first of its kind in the haircare range. Much like the oil cleansing method in skincare, this method of hair 'washing' (although not a new concept) has captivated me so much that I just had to try it out.

I've heard of people doing the 'no-poo' hair cleansing method, one which really can create an uncomfortable environment for your scalp, and the 2-in-1 shampoo with conditioner saves time and space but is horrid for hair; haven't touched one of those since the 90s! Lush sent out 'Ideal Hair Day' kits to beauty media, and we got to chose between a few different packs. I chose the 'Quench' box which included a slice of the brand new co-wash product.
