Peptides & Skincare with Rivet - TRENDING

Peptides are not a new concept in skincare; they have been around for a few decades, but they are starting to trend as anti-aging miracle workers. A peptide is merely a building block made from short chains of amino acids (anything containing less than 50 amino acid bonds is considered a peptide). Proteins make up anatomical tissue structures, including the integumentary system, where our skin protects us from the outside world.

Illustration including a Tetrapeptide chain (four amino acids).

In this story, we will go into detail about three popular types of peptides used in skincare and anti-aging formulation, which include the old and trusted Matrixyl (plus its newer generation adaptations), Copper Peptides, and the topical Botox alternative, or "Faux-tox", Argireline.

#RivetEmpties Week - MASKS & TREATMENTS - August to December Empties!

#RivetEmpties Week

Day 2

This particular post felt that it was carrying its own weight to justify a separate post. Masks and treatments target specific conditions, whether they are pesky pimples, dullness & dehydration, and even make a wide array of claims, such as "oxygenating", "peeling" and "detoxfying". Ahh, got to love marketing.

#RivetEmpties Week - SKINCARE - August to December Empties!

Welcome to #RivetEmpties Week!

Day 1

If you have been following me on social media for the past year, you'll know that my last empties week was held in July of 2016, and was posted on Instagram under the hashtag #RivetEmpties (go have a look, the posts are still there!) And in previous times, I used to do empties as YouTube videos, when I still had the ability to sit in front of a camera and talk. These theme weeks come every four to six months, depending on when the box gets full, and how determined I am to use up products. This week showcases August through December. As it's a theme week that ties in with the turn of the calendar, there will be posts every day with a special New Year PURGE on Friday.

Being a beauty writer, I go through heaps of product to come up with content, and skincare is probably the big one I talk about, so where better to start than with all the stuff I stick on my face? It's actually REALLY hard using up product when I have to test so many to give my opinions, but somehow, I managed to get these babies fully used (or at least I found them in the cupboard, way past their prime).

Lip Plumpers – Trending #RivetReview

Lips are a huge business in the beauty industry. Many people strive to enhance their pout slightly and others want to go full with Angelina Jolie in mind. From the one and only King Kylie, to YouTube Makeup Influencers such as Carli Bybel having fillers, with their fans following suit, it has become one of the most popular non-surgical procedures. There's absolutely no shame in having them, but not everybody can afford it, or simply aren't suitable candidates to have the procedure done (that's me!)

Upper left lip collapses into my mouth.

A luscious pout is something I've always dreamed about. I don't have the thinnest lips in the world, but I certainly wasn't blessed with, or have been able to achieve the size or shape I want. Having braces as a teenager pushed my lower lip further out than it originally was, and a dog bite left me with some scarring and a crooked smile, not to mention nerve damage to part of my face. I'm so contraindicated to having lip fillers that even cosmetic doctors have said no, so in my quest of getting the pout I want, lip plumping products will have to do.
