Kat Von D Metal Matte Palette Swatches + #RivetReview

Kat Von D Beauty speaks to every cruelty free beauty addict out there, particularly those of us who stray from the norm. Where alternative subculture meets the demands of the beauty market, KvD offers an unapologetic array of products for EVERYBODY.

I definitely stray from the norm.

The Metal Matte LIMITED EDITION Eyeshadow Palette covers neutrals, brights and bolds, in 13 matte and 9 metallic finishes. Aside from the cool packaging with optical illusion text, designed by KvD herself, there are 22 pans of highly pigmented goodness.

I was invited to the media preview before the grand opening of the new Sephora store at Westfield Warringah Mall in Sydney's Northern Beaches. Media were given the opportunity to shop before the store opened to the public. This was one of my purchases on that day, along with a few other small items.

Inside the beautifully crafted palette are an unusual array of colours. The ones that really stand out are "Velour" - matte electric blue, and "Tinsel" - metallic cool gold. These are the two shades that will draw your eyes to the palette; and given, Tinsel was the first shadow I swatched in store. I was very keen on having a play with the tester, and after that swatch, it was in my basket, ready to be paid for.

The pigment is second to none, KvD's eyeshadows are known for their colour payoff and quality. Each colour has a name, which consumers really like to have in palettes, I know I do. The colour selection leans towards a deep and muted emphasis, with an odd bright thrown in. There is a level of harmony and complement in this palette, but it is easy to get stuck for ideas on what to use, where and how, so there is a card with three different looks you can do that comes with this palette.

13 matte + 9 metallic shadows.

Thoughts?
I have a feeling I am going to enjoy this palette. It has been a while since I have purchased a high end eyeshadow palette, so I had high hopes for this, and I feel that it is already paying off after one look. I find the packaging, although beautiful, very bulky and heavy, so it will have to find a separate place to live as it won't fit into the draw with my other palettes. The included mirror is part of the weight, however, it will definitely be a blessing to have it at my friend's upcoming wedding (yes, this is the palette I'm taking!)

Although the pans are different shapes, they are all uniformly 1.7g/0.06oz each.

The shadows themselves blend very well, although I *ALWAYS* have issues with blending the crease colour into the brow highlight because of the shape of my eyes - hooded (with loose skin) and small appearing with loads of lid space hidden by the hood. I tend to do a cat-eye type look every time, because it is very flattering and helps lift my otherwise down-turned eyes.

Future looks using this palette will be posted on Instagram - http://instagram.com/rivetlicker

The Metal Matte Palette - $95AUD, and the rest of the Kat Von D line are available from Sephora, online or in-store.

Have you got this palette? Let me know!

This product was purchased by me, with a 20% PR provided media discount. My thoughts are honest.
