BYS Berries Eyeshadow Palette Swatches + #RivetReview

BYS have been around the budget makeup and accessories circuit for as long as I can remember. From what I remember as a kid growing up in the nineties, "Be YourSelf" started out with tubes of lip glosses and pretty hair clips being sold at Go-Lo and other discount stores. In more recent years, BYS has upped distribution and the quality of product, leading us to a beautiful little palette that may be a dupe for a much more expensive palette!

BYS Berries Palette

The recently released Berries eyeshadow palette has SOLD OUT at my local Kmart, and it looks like it's getting around the beauty communities. A $16 eyeshadow palette that is ALL THE RAGE? This must be something good!

.

The palette itself contains 12 eyeshadows, mostly with matte finishes. The warm tones make this palette perfect for this Autumn season. The assortment of red based browns and violets offer combinations to use during the day, and even allowing for glamorous night looks.

The packaging is the same as the NUDE series tins – it comes with a mirror and two poor quality/cheap, dual ended sponge applicators. There is also a sticker on the back of the tin that states the ingredients, plus an image of and shade names of all the shadows. The batch number is also printed on this label. The product itself is made in China (PRC). The retail packaging of the tin consists of an open lid, showcasing the shadows inside, a cardboard label over the mirror with "BERRIES" written on it, and is encased in plastic. My post of the retail packaging.

It has been said that this palette is a dupe for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette. Instagram user @ashleymareebeauty's post shows both of the products side by side.

Thoughts?
The pigment isn't the best, but it's good, and the colours do blend easily. My favourite shade in the palette is Juliette. I do believe the palette as a whole is a dupe for the ABH palette, except that it has two less eyeshadows. I have not had any experience with Modern Renaissance (I haven't even seen it in person), so it's just judgement based on the Instagram post by @ashleymareebeauty (above).

Whilst I think the curation of shades available in this palette are spot on, it doesn't have the "wow" factor in colour payoff, particularly the lighter shadows; they don't show up very well and the darker shades still need something to stick to. I suggest to use a cream based product (a foundation will do) all over the lid and set it with powder prior to using this palette. It takes a bit of work, but it's worth it!

This palette, although retailing for $19.95AUD on the BYS website, is available from Kmart stores in Australia for $16AUD.

Have you tried the BYS Berries Palette? Let me know what you think!

This product was purchased by myself, my thoughts are honest. For more information, please read my Disclosure Policy.

  1. Looks like a nice palette! I have the ABH and it's insanely pigmented (actually too much so for my tastes because fallout errrrywhere so I have to remember to do my shadow first) so I'd say that's probably the key difference on these. Awesome as a cheaper version though!

    1. Yeah, I don't expect the pigment to be on par!

Always do eyes first, never have to waste foundation!!

  2. Thanks for the review, not bad for 16$. It is one and only dupe of ABH palette in the Australian market
