BEAUTY HEAVEN NATURAL BEAUTY MONTH 2019 || Event Recap + Haul || #RivetReview

Happy birthday to me! On the very day I turned 31, I attended the annual Beauty Heaven Natural Beauty Month event!

Image description: Collage featuring images found further in this post, the Beauty Heaven logo, and the Rivet Licker logo, with text that reads 'Natural Beauty Month Event + Haul'

This event takes place in August every year, and showcases Australian and international brands helping to promote natural beauty trends. Beauty Heaven members are invited to this event held at BH HQ in Sydney's CBD and are given products to trial and review. This year's event was sponsored by Sukin.

BH COMMUNITY

I was lucky enough to get a +1, so I took my Mum along. I've not been well lately (and Mum hasn't felt too great either), so we decided to go in a bit earlier, have lunch, meet some of the members and chat, then attend our session. We were in the last session of the day, and we went home afterwards.

In both; a woman with short purple hair wearing a black tshirt and khaki jacket and holding up a white canvas tote with the Sukin logo and laughin in the first image, and smiling in the second.

Huge shout out to my lovely BH forum friends who came along! Yohanna, Lindy, Anne, Dara, Gilded, Priti, Karen, Margaret, Stella, Purvi, Shell, and others that I may have not remembered, you know how bad my memory is! I do love you all, you're such a supportive community! And a special shout out to Oni, Duckie, other Anne, Kats, Sakina, and Mis8, who weren't able to make it/didn't stay for lunch.

EVENT

Unfortunately, some of our favourite BH editors, Jordyn Christensen and Sophie Howe, have left us this year, which was sad, but they seem to be doing very well for themselves in their new ventures! Lauren Meisner took over to welcome us.

4. Plunkett's Vita E, cardboard boxes of products with a basket of fresh fruit in front, light green/yellow theme.

Sukin having sponsored the event, spoke about their brand, their philosophy of leaving things out (toxins, blah blah, you know how I feel about this subject), but also their philosophy of maintaining sustainable manufacturing practices, and their partnership with Reef Aid, a not for profit activist group set on protecting the Great Barrier Reef (really important issue, stop Adani, please!).

We also received a Sukin tote bag to stash all our goodies in!

BRANDS + PRODUCTS

Let's see what we got gifted to try out and review!

Andalou Naturals - CannaCell Glow Mask 50g - RRP $22.99AUD

Image description: Outer packaging of the Andalou Naturals CannaCell Glow Mask on a black/grey/white/purple crochet background. The packaging is a cube box with the brand logo and a cannabis leaf on a white background on one face, and a image of the jar on the right, it is white with a green lid and a cannabis leaf embossed on top.

I predicted that this might be one of the products, don't ask me how. It just seemed so fitting that Andalou would be showcasing their CannaCell range as it has only recently launched into Priceline.

Billie Goat Soap - Nature's Remedy Goat Milk Soap Bar 100g - RRP $8.95AUD

Image description: Outer packaging of the Billie Goat Nature's Remedy Original Soap on a black/grey/white/purple crochet background. The packaging is a rectangle box with a goat in the upper left with the brand logo, text reads 'Nature's remedy. Original Soap. With fresh Australian goats milk. Relieves extremely dry, irritated skin. Soap and fragrance free. Suitable for skin prone to eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis.'

As a soap maker myself (I only do Melt & Pour, not cold process), I'm aware of the chemical process and ingredients required to make the stuff. Goat's Milk is no exception, it's so good for dry skin and many soap companies harness the gentle and moisturising nature of this ingredient. This eczema healing soap is hand poured into the cutest little moulds and are left to cure for several weeks. The process ensures that every bar that makes it onto the shelves meets the expected quality, even if it means it's unavailable at times, but more Billie Goat Soap will be on its way very soon!

Thoughts?
My dad loves goat milk soap, so I assured him that he'll love this one. It is gentle and has no fragrance.

Blessed by Nature - Antioxidant Daily Renewal Cream 125ml - RRP $14.95

Image description: Outer packaging of the Blessed by Nature Antioxidant Daily Renewal Cream on a black/grey/white/purple crochet background. The packaging is a long white cardboard box with the brand logo at the top and red/orange petaled flowers on the left side. Text reads 'Antioxidant Daily Renewal Cream. All Skin Types, Vitamins A, C, E, Evening Primrose, Patchouli and Rose Oils.'

BBN is a brand that has shown up at several BH events. At last year's event, we received the night cream (of which I stashed one in the giveaway box and haven't done anything to hold a give away yet, doh!), and the Glosscars 2019 event gave us the foaming cleanser, which is in my shower right now! This time around, we received the Antioxidant Daily Renewal Cream that is packed with Vitamins A, C, E, Cocoa Butter, Evening Primrose Oil, Rose Oil, Patchouli Oil, and Lavender Oil, aims to provide natural free radical protection to your skin.

Thoughts?
I think one of these will go into the giveaway box or to family/friends. I find face products that contain a lot of floral essential oils to be a little hard on the sinuses, but I can always give it a shot.

Handsome Skincare - Antioxidant Daily Nourishing Cream 75ml - RRP $19.95AUD
Handsome Skincare - Facial Moisturiser 100ml - RRP $24.95AUD

Image description: Outer packaging of the Handsome Facial Moisturiser (left), and a black tube of Antioxidant Daily Nourishing Cream (right) on a black/grey/white/purple crochet background. The text is indistinguishable.

Two products from Handsome Skincare were up, and because I attended the Glosscars event, I had already received the Facial Moisturiser (which smells amazing by the way) and we also got the Antioxidant Daily Nourishing Cream.

They are both packed with Aloe Vera, Sesame, Avocado, Rosehip and Jojoba Oils, Cocoa and Shea Butters, but the difference is that the regular Facial Moisturiser has a lot more plant essential oils like Lavender, Cedarwood, Bergamot, Patchouli and Sandalwood, and the Antioxidant Daily Nourishing Cream doesn't, but does have added Vitamin E, which makes sense. I expect the latter to have less of a fragrance and be thicker, so more ideal for dry and sensitive skins.

Thoughts?
I offered the Glosscars product to Dad and snubbed it, so I gave it to my Uncle. Dad nabbed this lot after he complained about his skin being dry after shaving. Well duh, if you're not going to moisturise, it's going to be dry. Dad's getting a lot of stuff, but what he really wants is aftershave.

Plunkett's Nutri-Synergy - NS-8 Heel Balm 60g - RRP $11.45AUD

Image description: Outer packaging of the NS-8 Heel Balm on a black/grey/white/purple crochet background. The packaging has a lot of details and before and after pictures of feet. Text reads 'NS-8 Heel Balm Complex. Non greasy - no socks. Natural exfoliation - no files. Feel the difference in 1 DAY.'

This product is specially formulated to repair cracked heels and aid in keeping the skin of your feet healthy, particularly in those with diabetes or poor circulation. Lactic and Malic Acids exfoliate hardened skin, Aloe Vera, Evening Primrose and Grape Seed Oils hydrate and mosturise, plus has the added benefits of Vitamin C, Arnica, and Menthol. Another bonus, this product comes in a convenient 250ml pump bottle! It also absorbs well without feeling greasy, so you won't slip around after application.

While I was talking to the rep from Plunkett's, she examined my eczema ridden hands and suggested one of the other products from the line, and requested my address to send me some free sample packets of the NS Working Hands and NS-21 Skin Repair Treatment. I received them a few days after and I'm really loving the latter product!

Thoughts?
Guess who also got this product? Yep, my Dad. His podiatrist recommended he get heel balm, so he's happy he doesn't have to buy any for a while.

.

Plunkett's Vita E - Natural Vitamin E Quick Dry Oil 125mL - RRP $24.95AUD

Image description: Outer packaging of the Vita E Quick Dry Oil on a black/grey/white/purple crochet background. The packaging is a long cardboard box with the brand logo at the top on a white background. A band of dark red sits below and text reads 'HIGH POTENCY 100 IU per gram', the rest of the box is a pale yellow colour with a leaf design in dark red, medium blue, and yellow/green and text reads 'Natural Vitamin E. Quick Dry Oil. Infused with Rosehip Oil, Mandarin Oil. Scars. Stretch Marks. Dry, Damaged Skin. Preservative Free, No Mineral Oil, No Fragrance.'

I received the Pure Vitamin E Oil tube in my Bellabox: Welcome to Wellness box, and I thought we were going to get the same thing. Nope, we got the Quick Dry Oil that can be used EVERYWHERE on the body. The 5 ingredient formula is high in Vitamin E, and suspended in a light, non-greasy blend of Grape Seed, Sunflower and Rosehip Oils, and Mandarin Oil for a light fragrance.

Thoughts?
I love this oil! I love it. My Mum originally opened it so she could put some in her hair, and it made it soft. I rubbed some into my hands, and my hands became soft - I usually sneak a pump just before bed as it's so light and hydrating!

Sukin - Blemish Control Kit - RRP $24.95AUD
Sukin - Sensitive Pink Clay Facial Masque 100ml - RRP $16.95AUD

Image description: Outer packaging of the Sukin Blemish Control Kit (left) and a jar of Sensitive Pink Clay Facial Masque (right, text is indistinguishable) on a black/grey/white/purple crochet background. The text on the Blemish Control box reads 'Paraben Free. We've created this 4-step routine to naturally calm and clear your complexion with Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Willowherb & Salicylic Acid. Blemish prone skin types.'

Sukin offered two new products from different ranges. The Blemish Control range has recently launched, and the kit comes with trial sizes of all the items. When my Mum and I got to the Sukin stand, I got my Blemish Control Kit, but they ran out and couldn't give one to Mum! The lovely rep gave her the full size products, then after we left, found more kits, but she got to keep the full size products. The kit comes with four products; Clearing Facial Wash 50ml with Quince & Pomegranate, Pore Refining Toner 50ml with Tea Tree & Peppermint, Spot Clearing Gel 15ml with Salicylic Acid & Eucalyptus, and Oil Free Moisturiser 50ml with Willowherb & Moringa.

We also received the new Sensitive Pink Clay Facial Masque, which is designed with sensitive skin in mind, unlike most others on the market, targeted towards oily and acne prone skin. Pink clay is especially good for drier skin, and the added soothing properties of Tasmanian Pepperberry (often used in conjunction with AHAs), Chamomile, and Aloe Vera allow this gentle mask to be used by people with reactive skin.

Thoughts?
The only item I have tried is the Pore Refining Toner; I opened it because I had a breakout. It smells like floor cleaner (because of all the eucalyptus), but it's surprisingly soothing, and it'll get your sinuses cleared up in the process.

.

Weleda - Skin Food 30ml - RRP $14.95AUD

Image description: Outer packaging of the Weleda Skin Food Cream on a black/grey/white/purple crochet background. The packaging is a long, vivid green cardboard box with the Weleda logo at the top. Text reads 'Skin Food. Rich, intensive skincare for very dry and rough skin'.

I have to admit, I've never tried a Weleda product before because I thought they weren't Cruelty Free (by being sold in China), turns out, they are Cruelty Free! I also thought they were a professional haircare brand, so I was very wrong there too!

Skin Food is probably their most well known range, and boasting many different formula variants that keep skin in optimum condition, there's something for every skin type! We received the classic Skin Food tube. Everyone seems to be all up in arms about using Lanolin in our cosmetics, but I think this is definitely what gives this product the extra edge in protecting skin. Another key ingredient is Beeswax, which my skin loves. Sure, I love a vegan formula here and there, but these two ingredients make this product what it is. I expect a brand of this caliber to source them ethically. Plant extracts of Calendula, Pansy, and Chamomile add soothing properties, and the addition of Sunflower and Sweet Almond Oils give skin moisture. It's a very balanced formula from what I see.

Thoughts?

I only tried some of the Body Butter from the range on the back of my hand, but I am really looking forward to giving this a go!
